Karola Gajda
Karola Gajda was born in Yorkshire to Polish parents.
She studied Drama and French at Bristol University and she trained in theatre, clown and mime at Jacques Lecoq's International Theatre School in Paris. Karola then did stand-up comedy for seven years.
When she found a lot of her material touched on her Polish Yorkshire upbringing, she decided to create a solo theatre show about her Polish roots and her comic obsession with class. Theatre would let her draw on her stand-up background while covering a wider range of emotion through dramatic biographical content.
She created 'My Polish Roots (And Other Vegetables)', which was directed by Peta Lily and funded by Arts Council London.
While cooking up 'barszcz' (beetroot soup) on stage to serve to the audience, Karola delved into her Polish roots and touched on her working class upbringing in Doncaster.
