Patrick McGuinness

Patrick McGuiness was brought up in Venezuela, Iran, Belgium and England. He is Professor of French and Comparative Literature at Oxford University. His previous books include: Anthologie de la poesie symboliste et decadente (2001), the most up to date anthology of late 19th C French poetry in French, an acclaimed translation of Mallarme's For Anatole's Tomb (2004), studies of avant-garde theatre, and editions of modernist writers. As a poet he won an Eric Gregory Award in 1998, the American Poetry Foundation's Levinson Prize in 2003, and the Poetry Business Prize in 2006. The Canals of Mars (2004, Carcanet) has been translated into Italian (Mobydick editore) and Czech (Periplum).
